Queenstown Guided Hikes

Join us on a private guided hike to explore the stunning landscape around Queenstown. Your day will include a guided hike along with sightseeing, with a dedicated local guide and luxury vehicle.

Mt Crichton Loop Track Including Sam Summers Hut

Join us on this trail that winds through native beech forests, crosses rivers, and unveils a captivating waterfall, all under the guidance of your private hiking guide. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Lake Dispute and Lake Whakatipu, while catching glimpses of Central Otago’s rich gold mining history.

Highlights of this journey include exploring an old mining tunnel, once used as a tailrace and visiting the site of a 1930s Chinese gold miners camp, where you’ll discover Sam Summers Hut.

The total distance covered is 6.5 km, including some steep areas, and the hike is expected to take approximately 2.5-3 hours. If you would like an easier alternative hike, we suggest the nearby Moke Lake Loop Track.

Please allow 4 hours for the entire experience, including travel time from your Queenstown accommodation.

Bob’s Cove Track & Nature Walk

Listen for the calls of the bellbird, tui and kereru (wood pigeons) while your guide leads you through beech forests and manuka groves, sharing interesting information and insights about the native birds and surrounding bush.

Highlights of this tour include a historic lime kiln dating back to the 1800s and a short, steep climb to a spectacular lookout point. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views over Lake Whakatipu to the surrounding mountains.

This is our shortest hike, a mostly easy walk but with a short, steep climb to the lookout. The walking distance is 3 kms, taking approximately 90 minutes.

Arrowtown

Explore the stunning landscape and rich history of Arrowtown through its well-maintained walking and hiking trails.

These paths wind alongside rivers, ascend alpine foothills and meander through alpine forests. As you journey along these trails, you’ll encounter remnants of the town’s gold mining heritage, set against the backdrop of breathtaking natural scenery.

Arrowtown offers a range of walks varying in length and difficulty. There are several options for spectacular walks or hikes in this area. Discuss the options with your private guide, who will help choose a walk that suits your group.

For those wanting an easy walk, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the serene Arrowtown River Trail or the longer Lake Hayes Loop Track.

For those seeking more a challenging hike, allow us to take you on the spectacular 3-hour Sawpit Gully Trail hike in the hills above Arrowtown. Immerse yourself in the alpine foothills, experiencing a stunning range of alpine forest, tussock-covered hills, pure alpine creeks and breath-taking views.

Following your hike, take time to explore the charming town of Arrowtown and enjoy a refreshing drink before your guide returns you to Queenstown.

Clothing and Safety for Hikes

  • Guests bring their own footwear and clothing appropriate for walking outdoors.

  • Guests are advised to dress appropriately for the weather, bearing in mind that weather conditions can change quickly in this alpine region. Some locations can be cold and windy. Guests may need to bring a rain jacket and warm clothing.

  • Some hikes may not be suitable for very young children.

  • Some of the hikes are challenging and include steep sections requiring a moderate level of fitness. There are options for easier walks and more challenging hikes. Participants are responsible for ensuring they are in suitable physical condition to participate in the tour. Please discuss any concerns about the difficulty of the hike with your guide.

  • Any medical conditions, allergies, or dietary restrictions should be disclosed to us in advance and with your guide.

  • Participants are required to follow safety guidelines and instructions provided by tour guides.

  • LSQ reserves the right to amend or cancel any hiking tour. The guide may use their discretion to change the itinerary taking into account weather, local conditions and the capabilities of the group.
